How do I Keep My Layered Necklaces from Getting Tangled?
As a personal stylist for women based in Seattle, I’m constantly experimenting with new combinations to keep things feeling fresh and curated for my clients. Personally, I’ve been deep into layering necklaces for the past year or so. A champion of mixing metals, I’ve been addicted to layering two to three necklaces at a time- one in silver the others in gold, or visa versa.
If you, like me, love layering jewelry but don’t love the incessant tangling, I’ve got great news for you. There are easy solutions to prevent tangling necklaces.
How do I Prevent My Necklaces from Getting Tangled?
Be thoughtful about which necklaces you layer.
Yes! The goal is to layer an array of necklaces that resonate with you and communicate your authentic personal style. As I mentioned, I’m especially fond of mixing metals, but you should do what feels good to you. Dive into your existing collection. Most of us accumulate jewelry over time so you may not need to buy anything to create an ideal look. Your goal is to find necklaces with chains that vary in length and thickness so that they won’t tangle up into one another. This also means that they’ll look beautiful together. They can be short or long or a mix of both. That’s up to you. Keep your body type in mind when deciding. A longer chain that draws attention to your vertical middle will minimize your stomach, if that’s important to you.
Freshen up existing pieces.
While your in your jewelry box, consider pieces that have the potential to be glorious again. Perhaps they simply need freshening up. An ultrasonic jewelry cleaner can be a welcome tool to save you time and energy here. Elbow grease and various products (depending on the metal) are great options, as well. Really, you just want to love how each piece looks and keep it nice and clean. In addition to cleaning your jewelry, swapping out the charms to feel current is a great hack. Often a charm you adored years ago suddenly feels right again.
Get the right clasp.
Now that you have the proper pieces, it’s time to ensure they won’t tangle up. Try one of these handy clasps that allows you to layer multiple necklaces and keep the chains staggered on your neck. A super useful invention for a crazy low price.
Let’s see if you become addicted to layering your necklaces the way that I have. Enjoy!
